William of Tyre, "Tyre being blockaded by the Venetian fleetand besieged by Crusader knighthood, from the Estoire d'Outremer", XII Century.
Within the document “The New Agreement with the Venetians” by Robert de Clari, it was being told to the leaders of the army that they could not cross the sea because it had frozen over due to winter. The new plan was to attack the city of Zara for their money along with their resources that they had plenty of as they were a wealthy city. This document is showing how the crusaders wanted to attack Zara for its wealth instead of sitting around and waiting for winter to end.

The dodge states: “Sirs, it is now winter, we cannot cross the sea, nor does this depend upon me. For I would have had you cross already, if it had not depended upon you. But let us do the best we can” (Robert de Clari). In this statement it is proving that the crusaders are stuck because they waited too long to try and cross the sea and now it is too dangerous. Furthermore the dodge goes on to state “'there is a city near here, named Zara. The people of this city have done us much evil, and I and my men want to punish them, if we can. If you will take my advice, we will go there this winter and stay until Easter. Then we will make ready our navy and go to Outremer at Lady-day. The city of Zara is very rich and well supplied with all kinds of provisions” (Robert de Clari). In this statement he is saying that the army should move to the city of Zara until spring and take it over for its wealth, resources, and shelter.

Within the source it showed that the crusaders were not ones to sit around and wait for things. They didn't want to waste any time during the winter so they decided to attack the city of Zara. This was a smart move by them because it offered them food money and a place to stay for the harsh winter to come. Though it may have been un ethical to attack the people of Zara, it should that the crusaders were very smart in planning out how the war would go for them.

“The New Agreement With the Venetians” by Robert De Clair stated that because it was winter. They could not cross the sea. This did not depend on him. The dodge would have had them cross. The Venetians
told the crusaders about a town called Zara, they wanted to conquer. The rich city of Zara would provide them with a lot of provisions. The crusaders, barons and the nobles agreed to what he proposed but (didn’t even know the reward/plan besides the leaders) Venetians were not gonna cross the sea due to the winter, and wanted to go ahead and multiply with the crusaders to make a stronger army to conquer Zara.

“The doge came to the army and said" Sirs, it is now winter, we cannot cross the sea, nor does this depend upon me. For I would have had you cross already, if it had not depended upon you” (Clair).
